GENESEO, NY --- The Brockport Golden Eagles women's basketball team travelled to SUNY Geneseo on Tuesday night to face the Knights for the first round of the SUNYAC Tournament. This was the Golden Eagles first time in the postseason since losing to the Knights in the SUNYAC tournament on February 25th 2020.
Unfortunately for the Golden Eagles, their season ended today with a loss 67-61. It was an ugly offensive game for Brockport for all but the final quarter.
The Golden Eagles struck first with a layup from junior forward Juan Brown and then a three-pointer from sophomore guard Anna Lee to start the game 5-0. However, once the Knights took the lead late in the first quarter, they never gave the lead right back for the rest of the game.
Although the offense was struggling for Brockport, once the fourth quarter came, much better results came. The Golden Eagles were down as much as 20 points in the fourth quarter, but late game heroics from freshman guard Stephanie Jean-Baptiste and junior forward Zairea Hannah brought the game down to four points. Unfortunately, this late game comeback from Brockport fell short.
For the Golden Eagles, Jean-Baptiste led in scoring with 17 points. Hannah finished with 14 points along with 16 rebounds. For the Knights, senior forward Lauren Romito and senior guard Hannah Stockman both led in scoring with 14 points each.
Although the women's season has come to an end, basketball is not yet over for the Golden Eagles. This Friday, the men's team will travel to Oswego to face the Cortland Red Dragons for their SUNYAC semi-finals matchup. Pre-game is at 5:15 p.m.
