BROCKPORT, N.Y. – After a 31-21 scoring differential in the first, Cam Tooley and the Brockport Golden Eagles kept up the pace to tally a 71-58 win. Brockport women's basketball remains perfect in conference play.  Tooley excelled in all facets of the game, finishing with 14 points alongside eight rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals.

“Sometimes she takes a back seat just because we have a lot of scorers,” Brockport head coach Corinne Jones said. “When she sees that she has to do something she will do it … I just think she kind of waits and is able to see things out.”

Tooley found half of her points in the third quarter as Brockport outscored the Elmira Soaring Eagles 24-19.

Nevaeh Winston tallied the first points of the afternoon, breaking Brockport’s press to find a wide-open layup. This would be the only lead for the Soaring Eagles as Kaileigh Hunt responded just 13 seconds later, pushing through contact for a layup that led to an and-one opportunity. Hunt cashed her free throw as the Golden Eagles took the lead.

Hunt finished with 13 points to go along with five rebounds, four steals and three assists.

Stephanie Jean-Baptiste also pushed the pace throughout the first quarter, scoring her first points with a euro step layup. She also added three offensive rebounds. Jean-Baptiste ended with a team-high 16 points to pair with five rebounds and two steals defensively.

The Soaring Eagles started the claw back throughout the second quarter with Taylor Jung and Laura Bogota each draining a three. Bogota finished as the leading scorer for both teams with 19 points. Brockport stormed back late with more help from Hunt as well as a southpaw layup from Peyton Maneri.

Maneri finished with 15 points as well as four assists and four steals.

“She’s got experience now,” coach Jones said. “She started a bunch of games, and she’s just learning the game and becoming a student of the game.”

Elmira continued to put effort in during the fourth quarter, starting off with an 8-0 run that included threes from Mallory Welty and D’Asia Jones. Brockport responded with an 8-0 run of their own with contributions from Hunt, Tooley and Jean-Baptiste.

The Golden Eagle defense forced 32 turnovers throughout the 40 minutes of play, the second highest mark in a game all season.

“I’ve always played aggressive on ball defense,” Maneri said. “Being here with coach jones has brought it out even more because she’s a very on ball and deny type of coach.”

Brockport’s historic run continues as they move to 18-2 overall and 11-0 in Empire 8 conference play. The Golden Eagles next matchup is on Friday, Feb. 7 at The Vlog against Nazareth. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
