Boy-1da recently produced a song featuring both Meek Mill and Leslie Grace titled “CONGA” in an attempt to reintroduce the original Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine song to a modern audience.
I wasn’t exactly a huge fan of the original song anyway as it can be annoying and repetitive, however I enjoy the song in an ironic fashion for how catchy it is, leaving me with a love/hate relationship for the song. The cover song, similarly, leaves me with mixed feelings.
I felt the chorus sung by Leslie Grace, which was taken from the original song, was updated nicely and is still as catchy as the original. However, I wasn’t a huge fan of the additional verses and Meek Mill rap that felt tacked onto the song. True, it was a step up from the original song where it was mainly the chorus, but the additional content didn’t mesh with the chorus.
Overall, “CONGA” has some better aspects than the original song, but I didn’t feel like the additional elements were that great to add to a cover like this.
