Song Review: "Wildest Dreams (Taylor's Version) by Taylor Swift

Updated: Jan 6

Taylor Swift had fans in a craze Friday morning with the surprise release of “Wildest Dreams (Taylor’s Version).”

This release is said to have happened after the bridge of the original version began to gain popularity on TikTok, with Taylor teasing her own version earlier this morning saying “if you guys want to use my version of wildest dreams for the slow zoom trend, here she is ! felt cute might drop the whole song later”

Well, she did. With no time to prepare.

Snippets of the track were released through the promotion of the DreamWorks film “Spirit: Untamed” earlier this year, and then was put on the backburner as the album cycle for Red (Taylor’s Version) began.

The track itself, almost a complete replication of the original 2014 release, captures Swift in a more mature light. It is so hard to keep that emotion from the initial recording and not have it sound like it is just being sung to meet the deadline. Swift transports us back to the place we were when we first heard the song, making this version “replaceable” for the one we’ve known for ages.

Fans share their nostalgia and excitement on Twitter and pick up key notes on why every one of the songs Swift releases throughout her re-recording series are so important.

One user, @ithinkZknows, shared his reaction to the release this morning,

Whether Swift releases the anticipated Red (Taylor’s Version) or transitions into 1989 (Taylor’s Version) is something her fans will have to debunk some more Easter eggs for but will be exciting as she re-claims her discography one track at a time.
