Song Review: "1st Time" by Bakar

Indie singer Bakar has released a single and music video titled “1st Time”, and all I can say is that I was entertained.

I attempted to look up Bakar because I am unfamiliar with his music and he’s known as an “experimental” indie artist. I’ve even looked up some of his older songs and his songs are pretty decent and unique.

I can’t say the same for “1st time;” it sounds like a pretty standard indie-love song, which is fine; the simplicity adds a certain charm to it. Even the lyrics, which are admittedly nothing poetic or original, still adds some simple charm to an otherwise cliché love song.

The only thing I’m not a fan of is his vocals, which sounds different from his other works. I’m not sure how to describe them, but they just seem off somehow; almost as if he has a cold or something. Even though the vocals sound weird, I still got some form of entertainment over how weird the vocals sounded.

Overall, I wouldn’t call this an original or interesting song, but I still had a good time listening to it, more or less how the artist perhaps envisioned someone enjoying it, anyway.
