BROCKPORT, NY --- It was a great day for Brockport Golden Eagles basketball. After losing to the Oswego State Lakers last night, the Golden Eagles hosted the Buffalo State Bengals at the Vlog for the final regular season game. The Golden Eagles defeated the Bengals in a blowout with a score of 99-68.
That was the most points the Golden Eagles scored at home this season, surpassing the 95 points scored against the Fredonia Blue Devils on January 7th.
Before the game, Brockport celebrated Senior Day which included guard Jahidi Wallace, Tyler Cowie, Davonte Jones, and forward David Grady III. Wallace, who has been on the Golden Eagles since 2018, scored 11 points in the contest which finished his Brockport regular season career with 1,311 points. He surpassed Brandon Williams for 13th on the all-time scoring list.
The scoring was largely distributed for the Golden Eagles with Tyler Cowie leading the team in scoring with 15. Sophomore guard Tony Arnold scored 13 points while sophomore guard Mekhi Beckett and Wallace each scored 11.
For the Bengals, sophomore guard Matt Parkinson and senior guard Tyron Smith combined for 30 points in the losing effort. Buffalo State finishes their season without winning a single conference game.
This was a game where the Golden Eagles led all 40 minutes of the game and dominated. Their transition offense and great defense helped them win the game.
"Defense and know what's going on in the game. We're good enough to handle offense and we just need to be on our A game," said Jahidi Wallace after being asked about the upcoming tournament.
The Brockport Golden Eagles conclude their season with a 14-4 conference record and are the second seed. They will travel next Friday to Oswego for the tournament and will await the results of Tuesday's action for their semi-finals opponent.. Tip-off for the game is at 5:30 p.m.
