BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The Brockport Golden Eagles men's lacrosse team couldn't build a multi-game winning streak, as they fell to the Oswego State Lakers 10-5. This came after the tables turned in the second quarter and the Lakers carried their momentum into the second half.

After the Golden Eagles were up 3-0 with 13:58 left in the second quarter, Oswego State scored six unanswered goals in the frame to go up 6-3 entering halftime. Eight face-off wins for Lakers senior face-off specialist Logan Prescott was key in Oswego State finding its rhythm on offense in the quarter.

Brockport freshman face-off specialist Nicholas Ange won one out of the 19 face-offs taken with senior midfielder Nate Askin winning one as well.

"You're going to try different personel, you're going to try different counter moves and when you're up against a guy, that's a very one-on-one type of position," Brockport head coach Nick Fiorentino said. "So, as much as you can draw up scheme and you can draw up different things to do, it still comes down to athlete versus athlete and today was a day we were out-athleted. Just bigger, stronger, quicker and handled the ball better."

Freshman attacker Marc Zappulla (one + one), senior midfielder Jack Rice (two + zero) and graduate attacker Carson Colucci (two + zero) all led the Golden Eagles with two points. Rice, who transferred from Saint Rose for this season, has posted eight points (four + four) in his last five games.

"It's all about building chemistry," Rice said. "Maybe those first four games, kind of trying to figure each other out and get into a rhythm. Felt a lot better today and each game it gets better and better, so just hoping to build off of that."

Senior Jack Acker was the starter in between the pipes for Brockport. He recorded 19 saves for a 65.5 save percentage. Acker came in after posting 20 saves for 66.7 save percentage in the Golden Eagles' 11-10 overtime win over Potsdam on Friday.

"He's doing a heck of a job and I think he'll continue too," Fiorentino said. "I know playing the position, there's going to be days where you're not seeing it as well as you were, say here today and the game before. With what Jack has shown throughout this entire season, he's more than capable to handle that adversity. He could've had it a couple times today, but he fought through it and came up big for us. He's been a great leader for us and he's going to continue to show those characteristics as we move forward."

Rice would be the one to start the scoring in the game with 6:29 left to go in the first quarter. While driving to the cage, Rice fired a right-handed bounce shot past junior goalie Seamus Hand and into the net. Hand finished the day with nine saves and a 64.3 save percentage for Oswego State.

Brockport would score two more unanswered goals across the first and second quarters to go up 3-0 with 13:58 in the second frame. In the first frame, the Lakers outshot the Golden Eagles eight-to-six.

"We just knew that they were going to slide early a lot," Zappulla said. "So, off the dodge, just move it backside and someone should be open."

However, with 10:35 left in the quarter, senior attacker Corey O'Connor's right-handed shot that found the top right corner of the net kickstarted the six unanswered goal streak. Oswego State maintained its momentum in the frame to have a 6-3 lead entering the second half. The Lakers outshot the Golden Eagles 10-to-four in the quarter.

The Golden Eagles would score the lone two goals in the third quarter to break Oswego State's scoring streak. This was started after Colucci buried a right-handed shot into the bottom left corner with 10:44 left in the frame. Askin was credited with an assist on the goal.

At the end of the third quarter, the Lakers outshot Brockport 12-to-10.

The Golden Eagles' momentum that was built in the third frame was stolen in the fourth quarter by Oswego State. Senior midfielder Gavin Elston snapped Brockport's scoring streak with 10:35 left in the frame. He found the top right corner on a right-handed shot to extend the Lakers' lead to 7-5.

Elston's goal was the start of a streak of four consecutive goals from Oswego State in the quarter that cemented the victory for the team.

Brockport dropped to 2-3 with the loss and is in fourth in the Empire 8. With the win, the Lakers improved to 2-2 and are in third in the SUNYAC.

The Golden Eagles will hit the road next to take on Allegheny College this Saturday. Face-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
