Buffalo NY-- The Buffalo Sabres have had a busy weekend as they came away with 5 picks in the 2020 NHL Draft. with the 8th pick they selected Jack Quinn. Then in the second round they traded the 38th and 100th pick to San Jose for the 34th overall, which they used to select John-Jason Peterka. The 131st pick turned into Matteo Constantini, the 193rd Albert Lyckasen, 216th Jakub Konecny.
JJ Peterka was a surprise to the Sabres, in the sense that he was still available early in the second round. Director of Scouting for the Sabres Jerimiah Crowe said, "he was always high on our list. We tried to make a move for him in the first round, but nothing came to fruition." JJ is an 18 year old left shot winger. He came away with 4 goals, 7 assists, totaling 11 points in 2019-2020 with Red Bulls Munich in Germany's DEL. JJ is the only draft pick this year, by the Sabres, who has played in a professional major European league. He has played along side former Rochester American Zach Redmond and long time Sabre forward, Derick Roy.
Albert Lyckasen, native of Sweden, played his 2019-2020 season in Linkoping in the Swedish under 20 league. He is a right shot defenseman, which the Sabres desperately need. However, he will still need some development time in the minors or even back in Sweden for a couple years before he is ready. Lyckasen totaled 14 goals, 22 assists and 36 points in his last season. Lyckasen has with other notbale Swedish Sabres including Rasmus Dahlin. Lyckasen has even played for Dahlin's father on a national level. the native of Balsta,
