Brockport, N.Y. -- Brockport Golden Eagles men's soccer junior midfielder Brady Reinagel was awarded the Empire 8 Conference Offensive Player of the Week following his two-goal contribution in the team's senior day win against Elmira College. His second goal was the match winning goal for the Golden Eagles.
“Saturday was a huge relief for me,” Reinagel said. “After playing for three seasons at Brockport it felt amazing to tally my first goal, coming from an unselfish pass from my teammate.”
“Brady has played quite consistently over the last two years, and this is his first year where he is actually getting some starting opportunities, which we really needed because we’ve had a couple guys injured,” Brockport head coach Gary LaPietra said. “He’s just played so well this season. In regard to his mentality, his confidence is very high this season, he’s enjoying it.”
In the 3-0 victory against Elmira on Saturday, Reinagel’s first goal came in the 15th minute assisted by defender DJ Taylor to give Golden Eagles the lead. Reinagel added a second goal to his name in the 66th minute to give Brockport the lead.
“With Elmira putting on the pressure in the second half it was crucial that we found a way to get the third goal,” Reinagel said. “Which came from a great pass from Max Voyer, and good link up play with me and Trevor Lagarde.”
Reinagel has played in all 14 games this season and has started in five games. Reinagel had three shot attempts throughout the game and was able to convert two of them making him the joint third-highest goal scorer in the team with two goals alongside Peter Tinaj and Gael Baraldi.
“The season started as a bit of a struggle for me, learning how to cope with a couple of issues with my groin," Reinagel said. "Recently though I have been feeling stronger and more confident on the field thanks to our strength and conditioning coaches as well as the amazing trainers.”
Reinagel has assisted two goals so far into the season making him joint highest assist provider alongside Giovanni Cardona, Peter Tinaj and Alex Rivara. Reinagel has a shot on goal percentage of 0.529 this season.
“Brady has been really effective in our attack, where he has got the pace, he’s strong, he’s got a great shot,” LaPietra said. “He’s seeing the field well, he’s connecting with his teammates more effectively, and his first and second touch has improved tremendously. And the nice thing about Brady, he is such a two-way player, so even when we lose possession, he works so hard with his athleticism to get back and help us defend. So we are so proud of him.”
Brockport will be on the road Saturday, Oct. 26 to face Utica University. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
