Red Wings Walk it off in extra innings, extend winning streak to four games

The Rochester Red Wings hosted the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs for the 3rd game of a six-game series. The Red Wings were on a four-game winning streak coming off a 10 to 3 win over Lehigh Valley, where the Iron Pigs used 9 pitchers, on Wednesday. Infielder Jake Alu came into this game red hot, hitting .428 in 7 games.


Franklyn Kilome got the start on the mound for the Red Wings. Entering tonight’s game Kilome had lost four starts in a row. Through two starts in September, Kilome posts a 17.05 ERA through 6.1 innings. In three starts with Rochester following a win he posts 2-1 record with a 3.68 ERA. Michael Plassmeyer toed the rubber for the Iron Pigs. Plassmeyer was 6-3 with a 2.66 ERA.


Both pitchers were dominant, not giving up a single run through five innings pitched. Kilome struck out seven batters while only while allowing two walks on two hits. Plassmeyer struck out six Red Wings allowing five walks on three hits and plunked one batter.


Francisco Perez came on in relief for Franklyn Kilome, to begin the top of the sixth inning. After striking out Darick Hall, Perez struggled to find the zone and walked the next three IronPigs batters to load the bases. Designated Hitter Johan Camargo, with one out and the bases loaded hit a sacrifice fly to DJ Peters in left to drive in the game’s first run and gave the Iron Pigs the lead.


Red Wings pitcher Curtis Taylor came in relief to start the seventh inning. He threw two scoreless innings striking out three batters allowing three walks and one hit. Reed Garett went out for the eighth inning striking out one batter and not allowing a hit.


Iron Pigs pitcher Jakob Hernandez struck out Andrew Steveson and Lucius Fox to begin the top of the eighth inning. Red Wings First Basemen John Nogowski stepped up to the plate with two outs and on a 2-2 count ripped a curveball 414 feet into the road in left field to tie things up at one apiece.


After a wild ninth inning which saw a 1-3-4-2-5-1-5-3-7 put out by the Red Wings, the game was still tied at one. Alberto Baldonado came in to pitch in the top of the 10th for the Red Wings. He struck out one batter and allowed one walk and stranded a runner on third in a scoreless top of the 10th.


Nick Duron came in to pitch in the bottom of the 10th inning for the Iron Pigs. Red Wings second basemen Jecksson Flores was placed at 2nd because of the extra inning rule and Catcher Wilmer Perez led off. Perez bunted Flores over to third. Stevenson and Fox were intentionally walked to load the bases, putting the winning run at third base. John Nogowski came up to bat next. With a 1-1 count, Duron spiked a Slider in the dirt and it got away from Iron Pigs catcher Rafael Marchan which allowed Flores to score the winning run.


The Red Wings look to stay hot as they host Lehigh Valley tomorrow night at 6:05
