Portside Royals Hockey season comes to an end after 3-1 loss to Spartan Hockey in Sectional Playoffs

BROCKPORT, N.Y --- The Portside Royals hockey team hosted Spartan Hockey on Tuesday night in the Section V Class A Pre-Quarters. The Royals finished off the regular season with an 8-10-2 record and where the number eight seed in Class A. Spartan Hockey finished the regular season with a 10-8-2 record and number nine seed in Class A.


Throughout the majority of the first period both teams missed many scoring opportunities. Then with 3:41 left to play in the first period senior Forward Ayden Zugnoni scored on a power play to put the Spartans up 1-0.


At the 11:26 mark in the second period, forward Mikey Valent gave the Spartans a 2-0 lead after scoring a power play goal. The Royals struggled to get any offense going in the first and second periods. The second period would end with the Royals trailing 2-0.


Just 1:28 into the third period the junior defensemen Zachary Neu netted a power play goal to cut the deficit in half. This would be the only goal of the game for the Royals. Forward Mikey Valent sealed the game for the Spartans with an empty net goal with 37.9 seconds left to play in the game. Spartan Hockey Goaltender Keegan Waldo saved 36-of-37 shots on goal.


Spartan Hockey will travel to the Rochester ice center to take on the McQuaid Jesuit Knights in the Section V Class A Quarterfinal on Thursday night at 7:15.
