Megan Thee Stallion released her new single, “Neva Play," which features RM of BTS. It currently has 10 million views on YouTube. It is number three on trending for music and it has only been out since Sept. 6.
American rapper, singer, and songwriter Megan Thee Stallion released her first single, “Like a Stallion,” in 2016. In 2018, she was the first female rapper to sign to 300 Entertainment. Within a year, she released three number one songs on the Billboard Hot 100: “Savage Remix (featuring Beyonce)," "Body" and Cardi B's "WAP," which she was featured on. She was named one of Time Magazine's TIME 100: Most Influential People of 2020. She parted ways with 300 Entertainment in 2023 and became an independent artist.
Leader of BTS, songwriter, composer and producer RM first debuted with BTS in 2013. Throughout his music career, RM has collaborated with many artists, such as Wale, Younha, Warren G, Gaeko, Krizz Kaliko, MFBTY, Fall Out Boy, Primary and Lil Nas X. Alongside with being a part of BTS, he came out with his own solo debut. In 2017, American hip-hop magazine XXL included him in the list of "Top 10 Korean Rappers You Should Know."
Now this isn't the first time they made a collab together. In 2021, BTS came out with "Butter," and later released a remix that featured Megan Thee Stallion. This unexpected duo sure has made a comeback for the new year.
The song reels you in immediately with the beat and Megan Thee Stallion's rapping skills. The lyrics are full of confidence and references such as Bulma, Chi Chi, “Dragon Ball” and the special attack from Street Fighter, “Hadouken.” They both have their own verses, which involves RM using a different rapping style than he would normally use. Megan Thee Stallion's rap and RM's deep voice are quite the combination that just brings the entire song together.
The music video has a combination of real-life and a bold, futuristic animation. There were some animated scenes within the music video, such as the magnifying glass revealing the animated world and Megan Thee Stallion and RM defeating their enemies. This entire video shows their confidence, dominance and success, showing off to anyone who thinks little of them why they're on the top. At the end, Megan gets a tap on her shoulder after the picture of RM vanishes from the pinball machine.
Overall, this track was out of this world, and I love the different styles that were used. From the futuristic vibe to western rap to Korean hip-hop, everything about it was just phenomenal. I'm sure the fans will resonate this song to their own confidence, or the song will help them gain confidence, just like this duo.
