Spencerport, N.Y. — The Honeoye Falls-Lima Cougars boys basketball team secured third place in the More Than a Game tournament, led by senior captain Quinn Kailbourne’s 32 points in a 60-56 win over the Greece Arcadia Titans.

It was a tale of two halves, as Greece Arcadia dominated the first half. Sophomore guard Drake Sapp made his presence felt early, hitting three triples as transfer Jahan Wilson contributed significantly.

The Titans’ biggest lead came in the first half, when they held a 15-point advantage, 27-12. Arcadia went into halftime leading 31-19.

Xavier Smith, the leading scorer for the Titans, was another key contributor for Arcadia, with Sapp and Wilson playing dominant roles early. The three combined for all of the Titans first half points as Smith recorded 13 while Wilson and Sapp scored nine apiece. Arcadia head coach Albert Nash was not surprised by their performance.

“They’re veterans, they’ve got to be leaders," Nash said. "They’re the team captains, so they’ve got to put the energy and effort toward leading the team,”

Nash also liked what everyone on his team was contributing but noted a few areas that needed improvement.

“The intensity on defense, patience on offense, and we’ve got to be a little more aggressive and rebound better,” Nash said.

Unfortunately for the Titans, Kailbourne came alive in the third quarter, sparking a major run. Kailbourne scored nine of the Cougars’ 15 points in the third, outscoring the Titans 15-11.

Riding the wave of momentum, the Cougars exploded offensively, led by Kailbourne and fellow senior captain Holden Kamm. Kamm delivered a go-ahead and-one play that gave the Cougars their first lead of the game.

Kailbourne put on a show in the fourth quarter, as the Cougars outscored the Titans 26-14. It was a back-and-forth battle between Smith and Kailbourne, with Kailbourne finishing as the game’s top scorer with 32 points and smith next Smith with 26 points. Smith’s mindset was simple when seeing Kailbourne score.

“If he scores, I have to score, so we’ve got to go back and forth, and whoever wins, wins,” Smith said.

To go along with Smith's team-high, Wilson finished with 15 points while Sapp ended with nine.

As for Honeoye Falls-Lima, junior Jacob Weber joined Kailbourne as he scored nine points all from beyond the arc while Kamm tallied eight points and racked up eight rebounds along the way.

The Titans fall to 1-2 on the young season and will get another shot at the Cougars this Thursday, Dec. 11, with tip-off scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
