BROCKPORT, N.Y.—Brockport’s Chuck-a-Duck senior day was one to remember as the pool record for the 400-yard medley relay was shattered in the first race of the afternoon. Breaking the record was the first step in the Golden Eagles 182-37 campaign.
The meet was a strong showing for all seniors. But Brockport senior Sarah Kilburn showed dominance, winning every event she was in.
“Having it be senior day was just a little bit of motivation,” Kilburn said.
The meet started out strong for the Golden Eagles with the 400-yard medley relay team of Miya Vitale, Addy Martino, Kilburn and Elizabeth Sagan breaking the pool record by over six seconds. The new James B. Fulton Natatorium record is 4:00.93.
“Our eyes are set on the team record,” Brockport head coach Zack Wahl said. “We broke it two years ago with two of the same athletes. But Kilburn and Sagan are the two we’re adding in. Two of the fastest athletes in program history are being added in.”
“I think they can break that record,” Brockport senior Corinne Wilson said. “They’re only three seconds off, and with being fully tapered, they can definitely get it.”
The individual events started out strong for Brockport, with Sarah Colwell and Hannah Pauly finishing first and second in the 1650-yard freestyle with times of 20:16.44 and 20:35.50.
The 200-yard freestyle was another good showing for the Golden Eagles as they claimed first, second and third. Madeline Erhardt finished in 2:10.50, Hannah Ramos finished in 2:12.46 and Leah Allen-Comella grabbed third with a 2:13.31.
The 50-yard freestyle saw Kilburn finish in 25.71, grabbing first place. Wilson finished in second place with a 27.16.
“It was an all-senior 50,” Kilburn said. “It was just a fun meet today.”
The 400-yard individual medley had Brockport finish 1-2-3 with Varshana Ramgulam recording a 5:07.09, Emi Wilck finishing with a 5:17.50 and Qian Rappazzo rounding it out in 5:24.58.
Brockport’s Emma Conner placed first in the 1-meter diving with a score of 207.68. Brockport’s Jennah Bovay placed second with a 158.78.
The Golden Eagles once again placed first and second in the 200-yard butterfly with Ramgulam finishing in 2:32.04 and Maya Upcraft closing in 2:58.09.
Sagan won the 100-yard freestyle in dominant fashion with a 55.73.
Vitale and Teegan Perry continued to display the Brockport dominance, finishing first and second in the 200-yard backstroke. Vitale finished in 2:26.37 and Perry finished in 2:35.34.
The 500-yard freestyle saw the Golden Eagles record another 1-2 finish with Martino closing in 5:45.00 and Colwell snagging a 5:50.48.
Once again, Conner placed first on the 3-meter board with a 243.45 and Bovay grabbed second with a 166.95.
The last individual event of the afternoon was the 200-yard breaststroke where Brockport had yet another 1-2 finish. Lindsey Spitz finished in 2:42.15 and Sam Whitman finished in 2:44.21.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Sagan, Wilson, Upcraft and Kilburn finished the night off for the Golden Eagles with a time of 1:47.99.
“The last relay, we really wanted to do it for Maya,” Kilburn said. “We wanted to get her that first collegiate win. And we did.”
“They’re gonna kill it,” Wilson said. “A lot of the freshmen are our top swimmers. So, I have really high confidence for them. They’re going to go very far and break some records too.”
