BROCKPORT, N.Y.—The Brockport men’s swimming and diving team fell to the Oswego Lakers in a narrow 144-147 loss.

“It’s always weird coming off of midseasons because you’re used to feeling good while you swim. Then coming back today you face the reality of the feeling of swimming after a week of hard training,” head coach Zack Wahl said. “So, it’s really great to see Luca Olivieri, as a senior, the leadership that comes from him and stepping up in big spots to help the team. Jace Fredericksen is the same, but a junior.”

“With mideasons just two weeks ago now, this is the fall off for our times. We’re trying to get back in the water and swim hard,” Olivieri said. “Going forward, we definitely need to put forth more effort and think about the things that will change our races on the weekend.”

Olivieri won the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 26.58, the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.87 and got second in the 100-yard individual medley with a time of 56.67.

Fredericksen won the 1000-yard freestyle by 19 seconds, finishing in 11:20.19. He also won the 500-yard freestyle with a 5:13.39, which was 10 seconds faster than the next finisher.

“It just feels great, especially when it’s going to be a close meet,” Fredericksen said. “All I can do is my job. And I know from the start that my job is going out there to perform. I just started by feeling out the guys next to mee, see what they’re doing, see how they’re going to race it. I kept them on my hip for a while until they fell off. Then I just build for the second half and just run away with it.”

In the 200-yard medley relay, the Golden Eagles took second and fourth finishing in 1:42.42 and 1:44.61.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Brockport snagged first and third with times of 1:30.67 and 1:33.64.

Erik Parkes won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:51.41 and the 100-yard butterfly in 54.86.

Michael Laviani got third in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing in 1:54.42.

Matt Cole placed second in the 50-yard backstroke with a 27.62 and the 100-yard backstroke with a 58.85

Conner Berger finished third in the 50-yard backstroke with a 28.71

Sean Feeney placed third in the 50-yard breaststroke with a 30.82 and the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:06.83.

Will Mergl placed third in the 50-yard freestyle in 23.39 and the 100-yard backstroke in 58.94.

Joe Keeney won the 50-yard butterfly with a 25.19.
