BROCKPORT, NY -- The brockport men’s soccer team gave away three points to Nazareth University in the midweek matchup. The final score was 1-2. Brockport had a one-goal lead in the first half. However, Nazareth was able to come back with two goals in the second half.

Junior forward Max Voyer opened the scoring for the Golden Eagles in the 37th minute assisted by senior defender Giovanni Cardona. This is Voyer's fifth goal of the season.

“I just looked up and I saw Gio with the ball,” Voyer said. “As soon as I looked up, we made eye contact and he put in a perfect ball, and I just buried it.”

Nazareth’s first goal came from a corner kick. The goal was scored by sophomore defender Beni Luyindula assisted by sophomore forward Tyler Warmington in the 68th minute. Warmington added the second goal for Nazareth assisted by sophomore midfielder Braden Callahan in the 79th minute.

“The momentum changed in the second half; they pressed us a little bit higher,” Brockport head coach Gary LaPietra said. “We knew that was going to happen. We gave up a set piece. The same thing we did on Saturday. We gave up a set piece on a direct cost, cost the momentum, and then they had us.”

The Golden Eagles had 10 shot attempts, five of which were on target. Nazareth had a 100% shot accuracy in the game as all seven shots it attempted were on target. Brockport goalie Andrew Taylor made five saves in the game. On the other hand, Nazareth’s goalie senior Logan Menna made four total saves.

“They came out in the second half with more energy than us,” senior midfielder Eric Ramirez said. “I think we have chances early in the halves like '1-v-1' with the goalie and we don’t score them unfortunately it just comes back to hurt us. But no one is to blame for our losses we just need to work hard again in training.”

Brockport’s Andrew Taylor, freshman defender Khadim Amar, Cardona and junior midfielder Alex Rivara played a full 90 minutes against Nazareth.

The Golden Eagles currently have an overall record of 4-5-2 heading into the away game on Saturday, October 12 against St. John Fisher University. Kickoff is scheduled at 1 p.m.
