Big Sixth inning leads Brockport Baseball to Blowout victory over Springfield College.

BROCKPORT, N.Y.--- The hit parade came to town for the Golden Eagles as they recorded 18 hits in the game. A stellar pitching performance by Matthew McGowan mixed with the hits gave Brockport a 17-1 victory in seven innings over Springfield College.


The Golden Eagles jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after first basemen Patrick Bigham's double to center field drove in outfielders Nicholas Pastore and James Houlahan.

Starting pitcher for the Golden Eagles Matthew McGowan pitched six innings allowing one run, four hits, three walks and striking out eight batters.


In the top of the second inning, Brockport third basemen Johnny Genau hit a sacrifice fly to center field driving in Justin Pangburn from second base. This made it 3-0 Golden Eagles after two innings.


In the bottom of the third inning, Springfield infielder Cadin Maynard brought home Michael Barrett on a sacrifice fly to make it a 3-1 game. This would be the only run Springfield would score.


In the top of the sixth inning, the Golden Eagles would go on to score nine runs. Shortstop Justin Pangburn singled to right field and drove in outfielder Frankie Vanzillotta for the innings first run. Johnny Genau hit a two-run single to right field which brought in Pangburn and Houlahan. This made the score 6-1.

Later in the inning, Nicholas Pastore singled to left field. The left fielder made an error while trying to field the ball, which allowed Genau to score from first and allowed Pastore to reach third base. The next batter, outfielder Zach Eldred singled to right field and drove in Pastore from third. Patrick Bigham once again doubled and drove in Eldred, which was his third RBI of the game.

Later in the sixth inning, outfielder Frankie Vanzillotta singled to left field and drove in Bigham. Houlahan then hit a ground ball to the second basemen who made a throwing error which allowed second basemen Nick Maher and Vanzillotta to score. After the sixth inning, the score was 12-1 Golden Eagles.


In the top of the seventh inning, Brockport would add five more runs. After a leadoff walk by Pastore and a single by Eldred, first basemen Ryan Voight doubled to right field that drove in Pastore. Frankie Vanzillotta recorded his second hit and second RBI of the day after he singled and drove in Eldred.

Later in the inning, designated hitter Brian Tietgen walked with the bases loaded to bring in another run. Catcher Colin Coykendall hit a two-run double to right field which brought in Mahar and and Vanzillotta. The game ended after the seventh inning due to the mercy rule with the final score being 17-1 Golden Eagles.


The Golden Eagles improve to 6-6 on the season with the win. They will look to wrap up the RussMatt Central Florida invitational with a win as they take on the Lawrence University Vikings on Sunday morning at 9:30.
