BROCKPORT, N.Y. --- The Brockport Golden Eagles women's lacrosse team fell to the hands of the Geneseo Knights on Thursday. A dominate display in the second half from Geneseo led to 16-9 victory and the Knights second victory in Empire 8 play. Geneseo outscored Brockport 7-1 in the second half to pull away.

This game was originally slatted to be played on Wednesday, April 2 but was postponed due to weather conditions.

The first half was as close as could be. Brockport senior midfielder Alayna Foos opened the game's scoring five minutes in with a goal on a shot from the eight meter line. Geneseo sophomore attacker Natalie Long scored on the next possession off a feed from first year attacker Rosemary Mahoney.

The Golden Eagles started an exchange of runs in the late stages of the first quarter. Sophomore attacker Hailey Lewkovich scored twice followed by another goal from Foos to put Brockport up 4-1. Geneseo followed that up with four goals of their own in the final three and a half minutes of the opening frame.

"We stuck to gameplan really well in the first half, move it hot, keep it hot and things opened up," Lewkovich said. "Definitely one of the better defenses we're going to face this season."

This game flow continued in the second quarter. Brockport opened with another three-goal run led by Lewkovich who finished off her hat-trick along with a pair of goals from senior midfielder Sarah Kilburn. Junior attacker Amanda Evans was credited with assists on both Kilburn goals. The Brockport run ended four minutes into the quarter.

Geneseo responded, outscoring Brockport 4-1 in the final ten minutes of the half. The Knights run had four different goal scorers. First year attacker Karaline McCarthy fired one home in the middle of Geneseo's run to keep Brockport in it at the half. Geneseo led 9-8 at the break.

The second half was all Geneseo. Stifling defense shut down the Golden Eagle offense outside of a lone second half goal from Kilburn in the fourth quarter. Geneseo's defense led the way down the stretch with a productive half offensively en-route to outscoring Brockport 7-1 in the second half.

"We had a lot of silly turnovers, we knew what to expect but when it came down to it it was just the turnovers," Senior midfielder Paige Thowe said.

Brockport turned it over 22 times compared to Geneseo's 11. 16 of Brockport's turnovers were caused turnovers from the Geneseo defense.

Brockport goaltender Ariana Reed had 15 saves on the day and some incredible efforts to keep goals out of the net.

"They have a pressure zone so they make it really hard to get the ball moving, we call it 'weathering the storm' and you know sometimes we did, sometimes we didn't," Thowe said.

Long led all point producers on the day with an eight point outting (five goals). Geneseo's depth played a massive role in the win, with eight different goal scorers. Lewkovich and Kilburn finished with hat-tricks while Foos scored twice to move to fifth all time in program history in goals. Foos passed Tiera Stonewell (01-04) and she know has 147 career goals in the green and gold.

The Golden Eagles have a quick turnaround for their next contest. Brockport takes on SUNY Poly on Saturday April 5 as they'll look to bounce back and pick up another win in conference play. First draw is scheduled for 1 p.m.
