The Brockport Golden Eagles were up 21-14 at halftime over the Morrisville Mustangs, with all signs pointing toward Brockport to end the season undefeated in Empire 8 play.
The problem? They couldn't find momentum in the second half. Morrisville was able to shock the #25 ranked team in the country to win 24-21 and defeat the Golden Eagles for the first time since 2010.
It all started on the defense with an Andrew Covais 25 yard pick-six, followed by two touchdowns by Jala Coad. Coad had a chance to help Brockport take the lead back in the final minutes, but at Morrisville's 27-yard line, he fumbled the ball and the Mustangs were able to recover.
This is the first Empire 8 loss for Brockport since 2016, when they fell to Alfred 28-30 on October 29th.
The Golden Eagles, who clinched a share of the Empire 8 title last week, will now await Selection Sunday, as they will find out who their First-Round NCAA Division III Football Championship opponent will be.
